[01] CHRISTOFIAS - ATHENS
House President Demetris Christofias is in Athens where he will have
separate meetings on the question of Cyprus with the Greek political
leadership.
On Monday he is due to see Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, Foreign
Minister Dora Bakoyianni, New Democracy Secretary Lefteris Zagoritis
and Synaspismos President Alekos Alavanos. On Tuesday he will see PASOK
leader George Papandreou, head of the Greek Communist party Aleka
Papariga and be received by Greek President Karolos Papoulias.
He will also give a speech on the struggle against imperialism and
rapprochement between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
In statements before departure at Larnaca airport, he said his party
will work very hard to maintain the present three-party coalition for
next years presidential elections, irrespective of the candidate to be
chosen by the coalition. Responding to questions, he did not exclude
the possibility of his candidacy, if AKEL elects him, through
democratic procedures, to be the chosen candidate for the coalition.

the autocephalous church of Cyprus, the Medal of Saint Barnabas, who
founded the Cyprus church. The Greek Archbishop and his entourage leave
for Athens on Sunday evening.
On Saturday, Christodoulos had a lengthy meeting with the members of
the Holy Synod, headed by Archbishop Chrysostomos II. No statements
were made after the meeting.
