[01] CYPRIOT PARTIES COMMON ASSEMBLY REUNIFICATION
Leaders and representatives of the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot
political parties had today their regular meeting under the auspices of
the Slovak embassy in Cyprus, during which they exchanged views ``on
the issue of a Common Assembly for the reunification of Cyprus``.
A joint press release issued after the meeting says ``they debated on
the basic ideas of the proposal and suggested that the issue remains on
the agenda``.
The next regular meeting of the leaders and the representatives of
political parties from both sides will be held on the 25th of June 2007
at 10.30 a.m.
[02] PAPADOPOULOS CHRISTOFIAS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos and President
of the House of Representatives and General Secretary of AKEL Demetris
Christofias met on Wednesday and, although the February 2008
presidential elections were not on their agenda, they exchanged some
views, according to Christofias.
Replying to questions after the meeting at the Presidential Palace,
Christofias said they would be discussing the forthcoming elections in
more detail at a later stage and noted that it would be a good idea for
the political parties participating in the government to hold a joint
meeting.
Christofias told reporters that they mainly discussed issues concerning
the state, the resolution adopted recently by the German Bundestag, the
further handling of matters, Wednesday`s meeting between the Greek
Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties and ``of course we
exchanged some views on the issue which you are mainly or exclusively
interested in.``
