According to Statistical Service data, the increase of the Consumer Price Index rate and thus inflation was 2.4% in July 2007 compared to the same month in 2006.

New Ambassador of Slovakia to Cyprus Anna Turenicova has expressed readiness to continue to provide good services in efforts towards a Cyprus settlement. Turenicova met Wednesday with Cyprus Acting President, House President Demetris Christofias, who according to an official press release, expressed sincere thanks for Slovakias substantive contribution to rapprochement between the islands two communities.

He referred to the sincere efforts by the Greek Cypriot side to bring closer the two communities as part of attempts to find a mutually acceptable solution, which as he said must comply with international law and order and relevant UN resolutions as well as safeguard human rights for Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. During the meeting, the House President praised the very close relations between the two countries and expressed appreciation for the firm principled stance Slovakia has maintained as regards the Cyprus question. This, he stressed, is based on the principles of international law and solidarity between states.

As regards a European Commission proposed regulation on direct trade between the northern Turkish occupied part of the Republic with the EU, Christofias pointed out that the so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots is the result of the continuing Turkish occupation. He noted that the Republic of Cyprus has been contributing with substantive measures to the improvement of the living standard of Turkish Cypriots.
