[01] CYPRUS - TRADE DEFICIT WIDENSCyprus` trade deficit during the first five months of 2007 widened to 1.13 billion Cyprus pounds (around 2.6 billion US dollars) from 1.01 billion Cyprus pounds in the same period last year, according to the Statistical Service of the Republic.According to the monthly report Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics for May 2007, the total of exports in January-May 2007 dropped to £275,4mn from £291,3 million in January-May 2006, while the trade deficit was £1.129,7 million in January-May 2007 compared to £1.011,1 million in January-May 2006. [02] CTO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNThe Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) plans to spend 12 million Cyprus pounds for advertising Cyprus tourist product in 2008.The budget to be spent in 2008 exceeds by one million pounds the amount spent during 2007. The three main target markets are the United Kingdom, Germany and Russia. In statements to CNA, CTO Marketing Director Michalis Metaxas said that CTO has invited tender bids for services in advertising planning for the implementation of CTOs advertising campaign for 2008. The campaign will include the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, France, Greece, Arabic countries (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon), Sweden and Norway.
