[01] CMP - SPAIN - DONATION
The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) expresses its
gratitude to the government of Spain for its second donation of 50,000
euros in two years made in favour of the CMP Project on the Exhumation,
Identification and Return of Remains of Missing Persons in Cyprus.
In a press release, the CMP notes that ``this renewed donation will be
of great value to the CMP in its endeavour to bring the painful issue
of missing persons in Cyprus to a speedy conclusion.``
``It is estimated that the remains exhumed so far relate to over 450
individuals,`` it says, adding that ``107 individuals have been
identified to date and their remains returned to their respective
families.``
[02] AIDES - MEETING
George Iacovou and Ozdil Nami, aides of Cyprus President Demetris
Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat respectively,
have codified the convergences and divergences between the two sides on
issues discussed by the two community leaders at the UN-led
negotiations.
Iacovou and Nami met solely to record the views and positions submitted
by the two sides on governance. Their next meeting is scheduled for
December 10.
``We have agreed on texts in which the convergences and divergences
between the two sides on the competencies of the federal executive, the
legislature and the judiciary as well as the independent officers are
recorded,`` Presidential Commissioner Iacovou told the press after the
meeting.
Asked if this will assist the negotiations, Iacovou said these texts
are drafted in such a way that each of the leaders can easily compare
the positions of each side, something which, he noted, will assist
further discussion and negotiation.
