    Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is in Cyprus on a two-day official visit, during which he is holding talks with the government.

    During his visit, Cyprus and Russia will sign the Programme on Cooperation between the two countries in the field of Science, Education and Culture for the period of 2009 2012 and approve the Plan of Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus for the period of 2010 - 2011.

    Lavrov and his entourage arrived at Larnaca airport on a special flight from Moscow.

    He was met by the Under Secretary to the President of the Republic Titos Christofides, the Chief of Protocol of the Republic of Cyprus Ioanna Malliotis and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav D. Shumskiy.

    He is now meeting with at the Presidential Palace with President Demetris Christofias, in the presence of the Cypriot and the Russian delegations.

    In early afternoon, Lavrov will have a tete-a-tete meeting at the Foreign Ministry with Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou. Official talks will follow, attended also by their respective delegations.
