    Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou continues his contacts in Washington.

    An official statement said that during the second day of his visit, Emiliou met Ted Carpenter, Vice President for Defense and Foreign Policy Studies at the Cato Institute. The Cypriot diplomat briefed the Helsinki Commission, members of which are senators, members of congress and officials from the State, Defence and Commerce Departments.

    Emilious briefing concentrated on the ongoing negotiations to solve the Cyprus issue and violations of human rights resulting from the Turkish invasion and occupation of the islands northern third.

    Permanent Secretary Emiliou also met Howard Berman, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Jeanne Shaheen, chairwoman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs and held a joint meeting of the Hellenic Caucus hosted by Congressman Gus Bilirakis and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.

    Cyprus High Commission in Canberra participated in two cultural events taking place in Australia, the Europe Street which took place on February 12, 2011 and the annual cinema festival Windows on Europe Film Festival 2011.

    The Commission attended in Europe Street with a kiosk and informative leaflets as well as Cypriot delicacies were given to the public.

    The Commission also participated in the Windows on Europe Film Festival 2011 cinema festival Windows on Europe Film Festival 2011 presenting Kalabush (2003), the first feature length film of Adonis Floridis and Theodoros Nikolaidis.
