  • [01] Resistance against those planning the extinction of Cypriots, Omirou says

The procedure of direct negotiations between the leaders of the two communities aiming to reach a solution to the Cyprus issue, has highlighted Turkey's escalating intransigence, President of the House of Representatives has pointed out here Tuesday.

As he added, Turkey appears as the bona fide third party and as a neutral observer, craving for a solution.

President of the House stressed that Cyprus must denounce Turkey's stance and take advantage of its EU membership, as well as Turkey's aspirations to become a state-member of the Union, oblige her to end the occupation of Cyprus and accept a solution of the Cyprus problem based on the principles of the international and European law.

We are at the crossroad of history and it is our duty to act immediately, he said. "Inspired by the immortal tradition of 1821 and those who fought for Cyprus' freedom, let us establish the invincible front of freedom. From this part of Hellenism we send a message of resistance against those planning the extinction of Cyprus Hellenism" he concluded.

[02] Minister to participate in Energy Summit of The Economist in Athens

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Neoclis Sylikiotis will pay Greece a visit 28 and 29 of March to participate in the Investment Energy Summit, entitled ``Greece, Cyprus, Israel: Redesigning the European energy map``, organised by The Economist in Athens.

The keynote presentations at the official opening of the Summit will be delivered by George Papaconstantinou, Greek Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Uzi Landau, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Israel and the Cypriot Minister.

According to a press release, Sylikiotis and his counterparts from Greece and Israel will refer to the status of energy exploration and its geostrategic significance for the region.

[03] Juvenes Translatores awards presented in Brussels

European Commissioner responsible for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou presented Tuesday in Brussels the awards to the winners of the 2011 Young Translators competition (Juvenes Translatores).
