  • [01] Cyprus Airways flights running smoothly, airline's Chairman assures

Cyprus Airways Chairman Tony Antoniou has assured that all the flights of Cyprus national airline are running smoothly and without any problems.

Addressing journalists during a press conference, Antoniou said the state carrier condemns and denounces "the provocative behaviour displayed by Hermes Airports this morning, which threatened the survival prospects of the airline at its most critical ever time."

He noted that "Hermes Airports which runs both Cyprus' airports used unacceptable blackmail in an attempt to immobilize one of Cyprus Airways' aircraft and to underhandedly press for the payment of a disputed amount from the airline."

[02] Cyprus government expresses optimism on outcome of Troika visit

Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos on Thurday expressed the government's hope that the outcome of the second Troika assessment on the island will be positive.

Speaking to the press, following a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, Papadopoulos said that the consultations with the international lenders continue on a fast pace and in all levels.

"We are hoping that we `will make it` this time as well", he told the press.

The Industrial Production Index recorded an annual decrease of 8,8% in August 2013.

The Statistical Service said on Wednesday that the Index reached 66,3 units in August 2013, down by 8,8% compared to August 2012.

For the period January - August 2013, the Index recorded a decrease of 13,1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

[04] No specific results from meetings of negotiators

There are no specific results as yet in efforts the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot negotiators are making to help resume the stalled peace talks, as disagreements continue over the contents of a joint statement, to be issued by the leaders of the island's two communities.

According to CNA sources, there are also disagreements on the fundamental principles of a solution of the Cyprus issue.

On Monday, the Special Advisor of the UN Secretary-General Alexander Downer, will be back in Cyprus for a new round of meetings.
