Eliades also noted that Greece is Cyprus' loyal and selfless supporter in its struggle for the termination of the Turkish occupation.

[02] EP President assures that Cyprus will receive EU help

European Parliament President Martin Schultz has assured Cyprus House President Yiannakis Omirou that Cyprus, just like other Eurozone member states that have faced problems, will receive EU help.

In statements to CNA, after a meeting with Schultz, Omirou said that "Martin Schultz spoke very warmly of Cyprus, of the need to show solidarity on the part of the EU and that Cyprus should be dealt with in the same way that other eurozone countries faced with economic problems were dealt with.

"He assured me that he has no doubt that this help will be given to the Republic of Cyprus", Omirou said.

[03] SPD Chancellor Candidate sets prerequisites for solidarity to Cyprus

SPD Chancellor Candidate in Germany's election Peer Steinbruck has said that he wants to have real indications that the government of Cyprus is undertaking significant achievements to combat money laundering.

Steinbruck, who is paying a visit to Athens, referred to three criteria in order to express his solidarity to Cyprus: the shrinkage of Cyprus banking sector, the combating of money laundering and the introduction of a financial transaction tax.

Replying to a question, the SPD Candidate said that the banking system in Cyprus is definitely oversized.

[04] CNA and Europarltv sign partnership agreement

A partnership agreement was signed between CNA and Europarltv with a view to bring Cypriot citizens closer to EU activities.

Speaking after the signing of the agreement Europarltv Director Giorgos Kasimatis expressed his satisfaction over the fact that this is Europarltv's 150th partnership agreement.

It is truly an honour to have Cyprus News Agency as a partner, he noted, adding that the partnership will be one of substance.

[05] President awards Slovak Ambassador Grand Cross of the Order of Merit

President Demetris Christofias awarded on Wednesday Ambassador of Slovakia in Nicosia, Anna Turenicova, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Cyprus.

The award ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of members of the Council of Ministers, heads of diplomatic missions in Cyprus, representatives of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties and UNFICYP officials.

In his speech, President Christofias referred to the friendly relations with Slovakia, saying that the Czechoslovak Ambassador to Cyprus the late Emil Kemplousek had offered to mediate for a meeting to take place between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political leaders. That historic meeting took place in Prague, in May 1989 and was the beginning of a series of bilateral meetings between the political parties of both communities in Cyprus, which still take place at the Ledra Palace Hotel, in the UN buffer zone in Nicosia.

[06] Eurogroup meeting on Cyprus possibly in late March

The Eurogroup decision on Cyprus will probably be taken during the second half of March, a Eurozone senior official believes.

In remarks in Brussels, the official said Cyprus was on the agenda of the Eurogroup meeting on February 11 but substantive decisions should not be expected, as the new government to emerge from Cyprus` February 17 presidential elections will be awaited.

The official noted that this could happen in late March, at an extraordinary meeting of the Eurogroup, which could taken on any form, including a teleconference.
