[01] Bush committed to finding a settlement to the Cyprus problem

US President George W. Bush has expressed his commitment to a just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Speaking to Greek community leaders on 23 March at a ceremony on the occasion of Greek Independence Day, Mr Bush said:

"My administration fully supports the U.N. Secretary General's efforts to bring peace and prosperity to all Cypriots. Our goal is an early resumption of the U.N. process".

[02] Cyprus imposes sanctions on Afghanistan

The Council of Ministers last week decided to impose sanctions against Afghanistan, thereby complying fully with a UN resolution and a directive of the European Union.

The Council's decision is of immediate effect and instructs all Ministries and other departments involved to take immediate action in their respective fields of competence and report to the Foreign Ministry about their moves.
