President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias called for national
unanimity and cooperation between the armed forces and citizens "as we
are going through a period that one can say is difficult, but we are
secure," speaking in Ioannina on Thursday at an event marking the 95th
anniversary of the city's liberation from Ottoman rule.
He said the country today neede the example of those who fought in the
past, and also needed unanimity among the Greek people.
Papoulias attended a doxology at the lakeside city's metropolitan
church in the morning, after which he observed a parade marking the
city's liberation.
The government was represented by Health Minister Dimitris
Avramopoulos.
