BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/M. Aroni) - EU Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas on Monday confirmed that the negotiations between the institutions and the Greek authorities continue.

"The negotiations are ongoing. We continue working with the other institutions and the Greek authorities," he said adding that the next step will probably be the April 24 Eurogroup meeting during which the whole situation will be assessed.

The Greek economy and the euro zone will be the main topics of the conference by the Brookings Institution, to be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Washington, with Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis being the keynote speaker in the thematic table on "The Greek economy and its global partners."

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble will also be a keynote speaker in the thematic table on "The eurozone at a crossroads (again)."

The unit in which the Greek minister will participate will touch upon the challenges facing the Greek economy, the prospects for reforms and economic recovery and the details of a possible future strategic agreement between Greece, its European partners and the IMF.

After his speech, Varoufakis will have a brief discussion with economist and former finance minister of Turkey Kemal Dervis as well as David Wessel, an executive at the Brookings Institution.
