  • [01] Resolution in sight for formation of NCRTV after Voutsis accepts ND proposal

Parliament President Nikos Voutsis on Thursday that a resolution on the issue of forming the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) was in sight, after the government decided to accept main opposition New Democracy's proposed candidates for the NCRTV's chairman and deputy chairman, Athanassios Koutromanos and Rodolfos Moronis, respectively.

"Today we are absolutely ready, a series of issues that were raised have been answered and we are ready to pass to the formation of the NCRTV," Voutsis said.

He informed the members of the Conference of Parliament Presidents of a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) made by Digital Policy and Media Minister Nikos Pappas that the NCRTV will have sole responsibility for organising tenders to allocate television broadcasting licences and that the number of licences will be decided through a process of consultation and consensus between political forces and the new independent authority.

Voutsis informed the members that this will be their last meeting on forming the NCRTV, while ND's Nikos Dendias asked the Parliament president for an express commitment that there will be an increase in those able to inform the Greek people.

[02] Number of TV licences to be decided through consensus and consultation, Pappas tells ANA

The National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) will have the sole authority to conduct a tender procedure for awarding television broadcasting licences, Digital Policy and Media Minister Nikos Pappas said in statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Thursday.

"We are confident that we will soon have a solution," he said, while adding that the number of TV station licences will be arrived at through consultation and broader consensus between the political forces and the new independent authority, the NCRTV.

Reacting to Pappas' statement, main opposition New Democracy's Parliamentary group spokesman Nikos Dendias told reporters that it was "moving in a good direction" and also welcomed the government's decision to accept ND's proposed candidate for NCRTV chairman, Athanassios Koutromanos.
