Striking stall vendors and producers also tried to continue their roadblocks of toll stations leading to the Greek capital, part of their efforts to block shipments by wholesalers. However, riot police at the Elefsina toll station, west of Athens on the highway leading to the Peloponnese, kept protestors at bay earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Finance Deputy Minister Apostolos Fotiades stated to NET 105.8 that there is no problem with the supply of the market with fresh produce. He also described the producers and sellers’ decision to stop their mobilisations as positive, adding that the use of tills will protect merchants and consumers. Finally, the government assured that the use of cash registers concerns only 4% of the sellers and will not extend to the sellers of agricultural products.
