    56.5% of respondents are in favour of the Church-State separation, according to a Rass opinion poll publicized today in Adesmeftos Typos. 61.7% oppose to the resignation of Archbishop Christodoulos, 30.8% asked for his removal, while 45.3% estimated that the clean-up measures in the Church are on the right track. The opinion poll was conducted from 1 to 3 March via telephone interviews in 1,205 people throughout Greece.

    [02] State Mechanism on Alert Evros-Ardas Rivers' Level Drops

    The water level of Evros and Ardas rivers has dropped significantly, as authorities say there is no overflow. State mechanism is however on alert. According to information provided by the Bulgarian authorities it is possible that the water volumes will increase again, since the temperature in the neighboring country is expected to rise and the snow will melt. On Friday Minister of Development Dimitris Sioufas visited the affected areas, while on Sunday Minister of Rural Development Evangelos Basiakos and Deputy Minister Alexandros Kontos will travel to Evros.

    [03] National Council Members Elected Tomorrow 3rd Day of PASOK Convention

    The proceedings of the 7th PASOK Convention have started for the third day. They will be completed on Saturday afternoon with the speech of PASOK President Giorgos Papandreou, while the members of the National Council will be elected on Sunday. In the meantime, the second day ended with the submission of 430 candidacies for the National Council elections, while conventioneers also stated their political positions.

    [04] Four Bombshells Launched Assault in Camp Kills Five

    Five Iraqi soldiers lost their lives today after bombshells exploded in their camp in Duluija, 70km north of Baghdad, announced an official of the Iraqi armed forces. According to captain Ashad Sadad, four bombshells were launched at 03.00 local time. A new announcement issued by the US army reported that a US soldier was killed and another was injured in a car accident near Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad.

    Earlier, an announcement of the US army reported the death of 4 US soldiers during a battle in al Anbar. According to official figures, at least 1,507 US soldiers have been killed in Ira1 since the USA invaded the country in March 2003.
