[02] Our Priority the Support of the Working Sector

    News

Greek unemployment jumped to 9.3 pct in the first quarter of 2009, from 8.3 pct in the same period last year, the National Statistical Service said on Monday. Employment minister had a meeting today with Prime Minister at Maximos Mansion. After its completion Petralia stressed that the measures the government has taken for the support of the working sector have already been effective. Employment minister said that 23.000 people were recruited in working positions in April and announced that the bill regarding the modernisations of IKA social fund is going to be submitted to Parliament soon.

The main concern of the government is the support of employment within the international financial crisis, Petralia stressed. Our target and goal is the rise of unemployment recorded in the first quarter of 2009, to be a sporadic phenomenon, and I believe that it will be, she concluded and underlined that the government's first priority is to support employment and to protects employed force.
