 TSOCHATZOPOULOS: NEW ADVERTISEMENT CAMPAIGNAthens, 1 August 2002 (15:39 UTC+2)
An advertisement campaign for the tourist promotion of Greece will begin next month, aiming at promoting the Olympics and the Paraolympics of 2004, while apart from the main advertisement promotion, there will be 10 smaller promotions, covering special forms of tourism.
This was announced by Minister of Development Akis Tsohatzopoulos, in an interview he gave this morning at the offices of EOT, on the course of tourism in Greece.
Mr. Tsohatzopoulos, referring to this year's tourist movement developments, pointed out that the exact numbers cannot be given, however he did appreciate that the present situation is stagnant when compared to last year. At the same time he accused those of mentioning a large drop in tourist traffic this year (10%-20%), characterizing their information as inaccurate and underlining that they will be proven wrong by the end of the running tourist year.
This tourist year, according to the Minister of Development, was affected by international incidents, especially the September 11 strike on the US, and resulted in a 50% drop from US tourism, and more than 10% from German and UK tourism.
However, Mr. Tsohatzopoulos pointed out that Greece has managed to have the smallest consequences from the general crisis in the international tourism sector. Data so far shows a small drop in Greece's airports compared to last year.
 AUTHORITIES FIND N17 PROCLAMATION A FABRICATIONAthens, 1 August 2002 (12:32 UTC+2)
The appreciation of the authorities is pointing towards the forgery of the proclamation bearing the signature of November 17, due to the content and style of the five-page text published by the Eleftherotypia newspaper yesterday.
Specifically, the lack of some distinctive characteristic referring the authorities to any historic piece of evidence that was a trademark of the organization, such as the seal and the first typewriter, as well as the doubtful preciseness and point of its references, is the evidence that led the authorities to believe that the proclamation is a fabrication.
The authorities doubt the genuineness of the proclamation because, as the counter-terrorism service officially pointed out, no photographic or film evidence of Kostas Peratikos' movements a few days before he was killed was found, as the proclamation's editor claims there is. The fact that both of the organization's typewriters and the computer are in the hands of the authorities, justifies the use of an electrical typewriter, however it does not justify that the text was stamped with a similar, but not the same, five-pointed red star with the organization's insignia, with which all previous proclamations had been signed.
According to the authorities' appreciation so far, there is an obvious deviation from N17's older positions and practices. It is characteristic that with the mention of Thanos Axarlian, metaphysical worries were expressed for the first time, Axarlian was and is the shadow that will follow us until we meet him He was the greatest weight on our souls. However the authorities cannot compare the text with past texts in anything but style.
Finally, even Savvas Xeros' comment when DA Ioannis Diotis informed him of the new proclamation was scornful.
