    [01] National Council - Cyprus question

    Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides today discussed the Cyprus problem with political party leaders at a five-hour meeting during which the parties expressed their views on the issue.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said "the President informed them on his recent meetings with US Presidential Emissary for Cyprus Alfred Moses while Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides on his recent consultations in Athens."

    [02] Cyprus - Libya - Protocol

    Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Libya signed a protocol of cooperation today which restores relations between the two countries after the embargo imposed on Libya by the UN was lifted.

    The protocol was signed by Cyprus' Finance Minister Takis Klerides and Libyan Justice and Social Order Minister Mohamed Belgasem El Zwei.

    [03] Seminar - Women in Politics

    Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- The women of Cyprus have a high standard of education and are widely accepted in the labour market but they have to increase their participation in politics and public life, a press conference on a four-day "Election Campaign School" heard today.

    The workshop which begins on Wednesday, is organised by the government National Machinery for Women's Rights, comprising women's organisations and the British Council and will be conducted by London-based Eyecatcher Associates/Shevolution.

    [04] Cyprus - Miss Universe

    Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- The 49th annual Miss Universe pageant will take place in Cyprus on May 19 next year, at an estimated cost of nearly 2,5 million pounds (about five m. US dollars), Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis announced here today.

    He said the hosting of the event was like a "homecoming of mythology, legend and history", since the goddess of beauty Aphrodite was born off Cyprus' shores, according to legend and said the winner will be given the golden apple which symbolises the ultimate beauty.
