    by Maria Myles

New York, Sep 21 (CNA) - US Presidential Emissary for Cyprus, Alfred Moses, has expressed hope that something interesting will emerge from this fourth round of UN-led peace talks on Cyprus.

He also said the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides are both engaged in talks about the substance of the problem but warned that "it takes two to tango". CNA/MM/RG/GP/2000

Cyprus talks - Turkish Cypriot leader - UN Special Adviser

    by Maria Myles

New York, Sep 21 (CNA) - Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has said he is engaged in negotiations on more issues than the four core ones the UN has identified for the UN-led proximity talks, which resumed here last week. The core issues relate to constitution, security, territory, and refugees-property matters.

On the issue of Strovilia, in southeast Cyprus, where the Turkish forces moved their positions forward, in violation of the status quo, Denktash was intransigent, saying the matter is settled and claimed nobody came to any harm.

[06] Interior Minister - Illegal immigrants

Nicosia, Sep 21 (CNA) - The Cyprus authorities have arrested the captain of the boat which transported 275 illegal immigrants to Cyprus. Interior Minister, Christodoulos Christodoulou, said today that statements from some of the immigrants appear to identify the captain as Ibrahim Muhammad Farrah from Turkey, who was found hiding in the hold of the boat on which the illegal immigrants are now being guarded.

Speaking after a meeting with the Lebanese delegation investigating whether the boat, which sank of the coast of Paphos on September 13, actually left from Al Uzai harbour in Lebanon on September 11, in which case the illegal immigrants would be sent back there, as provided for in a bilateral agreement, Christodoulou said the captain would be taken before the Paphos District Court on the charge of illegal entry into the Republic of Cyprus.
