    A sunny day is forecast for today. Winds variable, light to strong. In Athens temperatures will range between 14 to 24 C and in Thessaloniki between 12 to 21 C.

    [02] National holiday, OXI

    Celebrations in Greece of the national holiday, known as OXI day culminate today with a grand military parade in Thessaloniki in the presence of the President of the Republic Kostis Stefanopoulos and the state and political leadership.

    In Athens school students will march in the city in front of the monument of the unknown soldier.

    On the occasion of the national holiday, the political and state leadership of the country have sent messages focusing on international developments and the further strengthening of the country s economic development .

    Greek &#8211;Cypriots also celebrated the anniversary of the historic OXI with parades and te-deums .

    [04] Greek &#8211;Turkish agreement to suspend military exercises

    Cyprus Defence Minister, Socratis Hasikos said that all sides &#8211; U.S, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus - have agreed to suspend all military exercises adding that the Cyprus National Guard was ready to carry out the military exercise Nikiforos in case Turkey violates the agreement

    In the meantime, Cyprus President Glafkos Kleridis is in Copenhagen to attend the meeting of leaders of candidate for admission to the E.U countries with the Danish E.U presidency.

    [05] Pasok party senior member proposals after local government elections

    Pasok party senior members continue evaluating local government election results.

    In his statements , Pasok deputy, Thodoros Pangalos said that local government election results indicated Greek farmers and workers dissatisfaction with the Pasok party due to the lack of social policy.

    Commenting on Thodoros Pagalos statements, Culture Minister, Evangelos Venizelos stressed that the conservative N.D party s plan to create a post election crisis has failed .

    The General Secretary of the Pasok party Kostas Laliotis has proposed the opening of a sincere dialogue with the Coalition of the Left and Progress party at leadership level. In the same line is Development Minister, Akis Tsohatzopoulos proposal for substantial dialogue aimed at cooperation with the Coalition of the Left while Finance Minister, Nikos Hristodoulakis spoke of a progressive coalition which would include the Pasok and the Coalition parties as well as other movements.

    Commenting the leader of the Coalition of the Left and Progress , Nikos Konstantopoulos said that the issue of policy selections would come to surface only if the electoral law changes.

    [06] November 17, 18th suspect jailed

    An 18th suspected terrorist was remanded in custody yesterday on charges of being a member of the November 17 urban guerrilla group. Yiannis Serifis ,who denies the charges against him , was taken to Korydallos prison , after giving testimony .He attributed his arrest to political expediencies and said there was no evidence against him.

    In the meantime , another November 17 suspect, Hristodoulos Xiros , in his testimony yesterday denied his participation in the November 17 group maintaining that his preliminary testimony was product of fear and pressure.
