The report warns Ankara that the Cyprus issue in danger of becoming its strongest obstacle to Turkey's European course.Gul urged Greek-Cypriots today to do more to help reunify [05] Cyprus, which is months away from joining the European Union. Gul said he hoped a compromise could be found even if Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash - who rejected a plan by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to reunify the island - wins parliamentary elections on Dec. 14. The amendment foresees the abolishment of birth and death certificates and divorce decrees that were needed for transactions with the public sector.
