Guerrillas fired 10 rockets at the headquarters of the US-led adminstration in Baghdad today, Iraqi police said, on the eve of the planned sigbing of an interim constitution for Iraq. There were no casualties from the blasts.
 Israel attacks Gaza refugee camps - 14 Palestinians dead7/3/2004 9:18:00 μμ
Armoured Israeli forces raided two Gaza refugee camps today, igniting gun battles that killed 14 Palestinians, after militants staged an audacious attack on Israeli soldiers at Gaza's border. Ten of the dead were gunmen and the rest were civilians, including three boys.
 Dodecanese islands celebrate 56th anniversary of incorporation into Greek state7/3/2004 9:07:00 μμ
Despite the general election, the 56th anniversary of the incorporation of the Dodecanese islands into the Greek state was celebrated today. The focus of the festivities was the island of Rhodes, although celebratory events were held throughout the Dodecanese. The government was represented by Foreign Minister Tassos Yannitsis.
 Possibility of Cyprus solution lessens day by day - UN envoy7/3/2004 8:51:00 μμ
In statements made in Ankara yesterday, after a meeting with Turkish officials, the UN Secretary-Generals special envoy for Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto expressed the view that the possibility of a solution to the Cyprus issue by May 1 was becoming less with every passing day. The progress of talks in Nicosia, to reunite the divided island, will be discussed tomorrow in Ankara between European Union representatives headed by Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen and the Turkish government.

As the first indications of an election victory emerged, ND supporters greeted their leader, Costas Karamanlis with cheers, as he arrived at the conservative partys headquarters in Athens. Karamanlis, who was accompanied by his wife, declined to make a statement to the media.

Preliminary results from the Interior Ministry, of todays general election, forecast a victory for the conservative New Democracy party, with a margin of about 4%. Earlier exit polls conducted by various companies indicated a similar outcome. More specifically, according to ministry data, from 53 out of 20,348 electoral divisions, ND has received 47.45% of the vote, Pasok 41.98%, the Communist Party 5.36%, Coalition of the Left 2.24% and the DIKKI party 1.39%.
