    The Bi-ministerial Committee is presently meeting under the prime minister's chairmanship at Maximos Mansion. During the Cabinet meeting yesterday, Costas Karamanlis gave strict orders on the slashing of expenses in the public sector with the exception in Education and Health. Meanwhile, the commissioner of EU on economy and monetary policy Hoakin Almunia stated in Brussels that there no country will withdraw from the eurozone.

    [02] Shot Dead by Guard

    A 24-year-old outward prison guard was arrested at Sougia, Chania Thursday dawn because he had shot against three passing by cars in the night for unknown reasons. Due to his attack, a 48-year-old man was killed and one injured seriously in the face. As per information, the culprit has psychological problems that had not been diagnosed.

    The incident took place at 19:30 Wednesday on the Kampanos-Sougia country road. The culprit began shooting against cars passing by for unknown reason. As a result a 48-year-old driver from Koustogerako was killed and another one from Kamaria was hospitalized at Chania Hospital with injuries in the face and on the back. When the police arrested the man, he confessed, without however justifying his act.
