    Greece's Prime Minister Kostas Simister told the crowds on his tour through Epirus that the country must achieve the Economic and Monetary Union, otherwise Greece would be left aside, both nationally and economically.

    As part of his three-day tour, Mr. Simitis also visited the working sites of Egnatia Route and stated that "Egnatia is not a phantom-project as many like to believe."

    During yesterday's convention of the man opposition party's New Democracy's central committee, the current leader Kostas Karamanlis crossed his sword with the previous leader Miltiades Evert who expressed his misgivnings for Mr. Karamanlis's recent visit to Sofia and the agreement he signed with Bulgarian Premier Ivan Kostov.

    Also, Mr. Karamanlis, in his address, critisized the ruling government for its policy in regards to Greek-Turkish relations.

    Italy's newly-appointed Ambassador to Tirana Alfrenzo di Camerana submitted his resignation today, after having given an interview to an Italian daily where he critisizes his country's government.

    Italy has re-asigned his much-talked about predecessor Paolo Foresti to the post.

    France's leftist parties so far have a majority of thirty seats, according to the latest exit polls.

    The Socialist Party leaders are confident and optimistic that they will be able to form a government without the participation of the communists.
