Kasoulides: Plan possibly submitted after Turkish elections

Larnaca, Nov 1 (CNA) Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said chances are that the UN Secretary General will submit a draft plan for a Cyprus settlement after the Turkish elections this weekend.

Speaking on his return yesterday evening from a working visit to Paris, Kasoulides said reports indicate the plan contains some elements which are acceptable, some other which are tolerable and other which are unacceptable.

Asked whether the UN Secretary-General will submit a draft plan for a Cyprus settlement, Kasoulides said chances that Kofi Annan will do so are greater than not submitting'' a plan.

He said there is a big possibility that the plan will be submitted before the Copenhagen European Council, but stressed that this will depend on various factors, including the state of health of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, who is recuperating from open-heart surgery in New York, and this weekends elections in Turkey.
